I am sure many of you have heard one of the following quotations:
“You can if you think you can.”
Norman Vincent Peale“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
Henry Ford
Many years ago, when I was young and reckless, I learned about hypnosis. One of my first test cases was an Air Force buddy — Wally who eagerly volunteered out of curiosity. A second buddy, Robert, was present and assisted me. Wally quickly went into the hypnotic state and became very suggestible. The test was two-fold.
-
We touched a cold object to his arm and told him it was hot. Then,
-
We touched a hot object his arm and told him it was really cold.
Here is what happened. The cold object made him flinch. He even developed a small blister because his belief was that the cold object was hot… even though it was really cold. On the other hand, the hot object was tolerated as if it were cold because his belief was that it was cold. His belief guided his reaction and behavior. His belief actually overrode the laws of physics and physiology to the extent that the cells in his body responded according to his belief. I was so overwhelmed and spooked by that experience I never toyed with hypnosis again.
Now, in later life I have come to recognise that beliefs do control our behavior and our success or failure. I have seen it over and over in my experience. And I am sure that you have also noticed it.
I just watched a very enlightening video by a scientist named Dr. Bruce Lipton. What I learned in his video titled Where Mind and Matter Meet gave me the courage to share this story. In the video he gives compelling scientific evidence of the power of our beliefs.
Have you ever undertaken a task that you thought was close to impossible to accomplish and found that it was impossible? Or have you believed you could accomplish something, against all odds, and succeeded? These examples demonstrate the negative and positive powers of belief.
What are you beliefs regarding:
-
the value of your business?
-
your ability to attract your ideal clients or ideal business partners?
-
your skills on the phone?
-
your ability to start and run a home based business?
-
the likelihood of earning a certain amount of money?
So, to achieve success we must learn how to control our beliefs. Examine what you believe about what you are hoping to accomplish– your dreams. Be aware that the Law of Attraction is all about “what we focus on we tend to get more of… whether good or bad.” Visualize your dream. Set realistic goals that are in line with your belief and get busy and make it happen. Always remember: “If all you have is a Dream to succeed… go to sleep and dream about it because it will not happen unless you apply consistent action to the dream.”
